Video Spin Review

Video Spin Review

week 2 conference

When I participated in this weeks web conference I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what the other students were talking about. I was confused my some of the questions being posted, still though I was able to clear up a few issues that I had about the weeks assignment.

Video Spin Software

I had high hopes for Video Spin, I was trying to move away from Windows Movie Maker. However when I started editing my sons baseball game video I quickly realized that the software had its limitations and issues. I can deal with a lot, but I absolutely hate when the screen freezes up. The main positive I came up with was the amount of transitions they offered. I am still on the lookout for a user friendly video software.

Progress Report

According to the Progress Report, significant progress has been made in reaching the goals in the Long-Range Plan for Technology. Some of the progress made is as simple as teachers becoming more familiar with technology and using it for professional development. Another example of the progress is found in the successful implementation of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills curriculum (TEKS). The Technology Application aspect has increased what students should know and what they would be able to do. And since the TEKS tell us what is expected of the students they have also employed the Examinations for the Certification of Educators (ExCETs) to insure that teachers are better prepared for today’s classrooms. The Texas STaR chart has also been put into place for school districts and campuses to plan and monitor progress made in the technological field. Educators now have to relearn how to teach today’s students and that means teaching a technology based curriculum. Our students need to be prepared for the world they are about to enter and the programs of the past are just not acceptable anymore. Thanks to the Texas Long-Range Plan for Technology we have the tools needed to monitor the progress we are making and also keep the vision alive for the future.

National Educational Technology Plan

National Educational Technology Plan: Transforming American Education: Learning Powered by Technology: In this plan they discuss five main goals as well as a desired outcome of raising the rate of students that graduate from a two or four year college. The five goal areas include: learning, assessment, teaching, infrastructure and productivity. The National Educational Technology Plan states that they would like to see that all “learners will have engaging and empowering learning experiences both in and outside of school that prepare them to be active, creative, knowledgeable, and ethical participants in our globally networked society”. The assessment area includes using and evaluating data for continuous improvement and providing teachers the appropriate software and technology needed to make the assessments. The next area is teaching, and the NETPs position on this includes giving professional educators the support they need individually and in teams with technology that connects them to data, content, resources, expertise, and learning experiences that enable and inspire more effective teaching for all learners. Another goal discussed by the plan is Infrastructure and it seems to be the most sensible goal. Infrastructures objective is that all students and educators will have access to a comprehensive infrastructure for learning when and where they need it. The fifth goals covers Productivity and its mission is for our education system at all levels to redesign processes and structures to take advantage of the power of technology and improve learning outcomes while making more efficient use of time, money, and staff.
